Our Club
LCRVHC is a group of riders from a variety of disciplines united by a common love of horses. We enjoy riding whether on the trails or in the arena, meeting to socialize and learn, and volunteering our time to develop and maintain trails.
The Lower Connecticut River Vally Horsemen's Club a 501c 07 non-profit corporation was established as a recreational and social club in 1962. Our main activities are monthly meetings, member-only trail rides most months, trail maintenance and development work parties, and an annual fundraiser hunter pace that is open to the public. Our evening monthly meetings have an education program (some at member's farms) or a party or other social event. We have an annual Progressive Ride where several members host a course of the meal at their homes along the trail ride. At the end of our monthly member-only trail rides we often congregate at the trail head to share a pot luck meal. Our Fall Festival Hunter Pace usually is held in the Weber Woods section of the Cockaponsett State Forest, Westbrook, CT. The ride is about seven miles long over diverse terrain with optional jumps and includes trails on several private properties not open to the public at other times. The ride includes lunch, winner ribbons, and prizes for the best costumes. |

Our trail development and maintenance work is done in conjunction with our sister organization The Bridle Path Conservancy* (BPC). As many of our members ride the trails we try to help preserve this resource and keep the trails accessible to all equestrians. We are committed to helping maintain the Weber Woods section of the Cockaponsett State Forest and developed and maintain the Quinimay Trail. Quite a few of our members are also active in the Connecticut Horse Council’s-Volunteer Horse Patrol program.
Most of our events and meetings happen along the eastern shoreline of Connecticut. If we are not at a farm, our meetings are in Madison, CT.
Our meetings are quite diverse - Here is a sampling of meeting topics:
