President's Letter

Dear Friends,
Labor Day. The summer has flown by. Hot and muggy again today and the coming week after several gorgeous fall teasers in a row. No one RSVPd for the ride at Dave and Julie’s so I am staying in the AC and getting a head start on this newsletter!

The LCRVHC Fall Festival Hunter Pace is only a month away! Please spread the word. It is our only annual fund-raiser and pays for important stuff like insurance! A poster and entry form are in this newsletter and available on our web site. Put a poster up at your local feed store, tack shop, or barn, or share on line or make a team with a friend! Download the poster here. And the entry form can be found here.

Recent Activities
I was so late with the July/August newsletter that it seems like not much has happened. On August 5, Alyce Mallek, Nancy Palermo-Lee, Liz Kennedy, Lynn Burns, and I rode out from Julie and Dave’s to start checking the trails and doing some hunter pace cleanup. There were several big trees down on Cowgirl Way (the magenta trail). Bob Bandzes got out there and cleaned them up! Because we had to reschedule the July work party we are going to have to play catch-up to get the necessary weed-whacking and other hunter pace clean-up done. If you can help please reach out to Peggy or Melissa. We also need volunteers for marking, set-up, clean-up, registration, parking, timers, awards, etc. Let us know if you can help. And everyone please pray that we don’t get a hurricane!

On August 11, member Claudia Marcello, who is working on getting certified as a saddle-fitter, came to Rough Draft Farm. Unfortunately Nancy had to go to a funeral out of state, Kathy Schuyler wasn’t feeling well enough to bring Slim, and Lynn Burns also had to back out but Claudia spent a lot of time with Liz and Clover and Homes and me. The measuring and fitting were very interesting as are the performance results of an ill-fitting saddle.

Liz Kennedy reports the club logo T-shirts are finally in and are being distributed. If you ordered a shirt expect to hear from her soon!
Please see the Upcoming Events box on the first page and the Calendar on the last page for upcoming activities. We always need ideas for the calendar! Any ride ideas/hosts are extremely welcome. If you want to share calendars from other  local horse groups we will try not to schedule on conflicting dates.
Melissa

PS LCRVHC membership is really a bargain at only $15 annually for individual, $25 for family. If you have friends you ride with or know people who are interested in trail riding with small groups or working on local trails, spread the word. And please, I can’t say it often enough, tell us what you want to do as a club!

2023 Calendar Ideas

Please think about the 2023 calendar. If you are interested in hosting a MO ride please email Lynda Perry, cymaronfarm@snet.net. If you have an idea for a program or activity, a topic you would like to learn about, a skill to share, or would like to host the winter party or summer picnic, please email lcrvhc.org@gmail.com. Meetings are at the Fire Museum behind 21 Copse Road, Madison, unless otherwise specified. It is always fun to go other places. Consider hosting a meeting or social event at your home or farm. LCRVHC has a Facebook page for member-only rides: facebook.com/lcrvhc. Check it out! Sometimes we include some local events from other organizations in our calendar so we can work around them.
